How the Desktop Metal Studio System Furnace works
Following printing and debinding, the concluding step of the Desktop Metal Studio System is sintering where the “green part” is made into a strong sturdy metal part.
During sintering, the part is uniformly heated to temperatures just below their melting point after being placed in the furnace. With the delivery of industrial-strength sintering, the remaining binder is removed while metal particles are fused together to form fully-dense parts without the usual residual stresses found in laser-based metal 3D printing systems.
In this video, Ethan Rejto, an engineer at Desktop Metal, walks us through how easy and safe it is to operate the Studio System Furnace all in the comfort of their office.
