New 3D Printer Material produces thinnest walls for High-Rigid Material: Digital ABS2
Great news for Stratasys Connex users opens new application possibilities!
Stratasys, a behemoth manufacturer for 3D printer and materials for idea, design, and production purposes, recently debuted the second generation of its Digital ABS material, named Digital ABS2.
Objet Connex 3D Printers users who are familiar with Digital ABS and its applications rejoice to welcome the new material available on their systems. Digital ABS, also known as RGD5160-DM (Digital Material), is fabricated from RGD515 and RGD535 to simulate engineering properties of ABS plastics by combining qualities of toughness with high-temperature resistance. Digital ABS2 provides superior rigidity and can retain its toughness in walls thinner than 1.2 mm (.047 in.)!
Based on Stratasys patented PolyJet technology, 3D printers using Digital ABS2 creates rigid prototypes with smooth finishing to allow for improved product realism. Moreover, it is now available in ivory in addition to the existing green color. Both materials are suitable for parts that require PolyJet technology’s highest possible impact resistance and shock absorption.

Like its predecessor, Digital ABS, Digital ABS2 also offers excellence in its durability to simulate products made from engineering-grade ABS with functional purposes in mind. But it also provides enhanced dimensional stability for you to easily fabricate and verify parts with higher rigidity, fine edges and thin wall geometries.
Digital ABS2’s enhancements make it ideal for wider range of customer’s application needs. Improved form, fit, function and assembly prototyping testing in early stages of your product design and development helps lead your processes to producing end use functional parts. It is also excellent for the creation of tools for injection molding, especially in cases of dealing with complex geometries.
In addition, 3D printing cores and cavities for use in low-volume injection molding applications can ideally be achieved by using high rigidity thermoplastics. Sharper edges which hold up better are strong enough to handle the high stresses of the injection molding process. Also, the improved ability to 3D print small parts such as pins and other thin features, makes the Digital ABS2 ever more versatile.
Fred Fischer, director of materials and applications product management at Stratasys, added that “In addition to general purpose applications, Digital ABS2 is ideal for prototyping consumer electronics and other consumer goods, including small appliances and cell phones, which require high stability with thin-wall geometries,”
Stratasys PolyJet digital materials are composite materials created by simultaneously jetting two distinct PolyJet materials. Combined in specific concentrations and structures, these materials provide unique mechanical properties and to results in closer look, feel and function to the end-product.
