Quick View of Desktop Metal’s Separable Supports technology

Traditional laser powder bed methods for metal 3D printing are commonly restricted to single materials and are both difficult and costly to implement. But with Separable Supports™ technology patented by Boston-based metal 3D printing maker, Desktop Metal, multiple materials can now be used during printing.

Applicable to both the Studio System (office-friendly system) and the Production System (made for mass production, to be released in 2019) from Desktop Metal, a Ceramic Release Layer™ comes in between parts and their supports during printing and is easily removed by hand after going through the sintering process.

Dave Belanger, an application engineer with Desktop Metal, explains the technology behind Separable Supports™ in the video below, and how post-processing is simplified for metal 3D printed parts with it.
