Stratasys launches V650 Flex 3D printer to disrupt traditional stereolithography 3D printing

Besides the F120 3D printer, Stratasys has also taken the opportunity at Additive Manufacturing Users Group (AMUG) Conference 2019 to launch the new large-scale configurable V650 Flex 3D printer to announce their significant entry into the stereolithography (SLA) market.

Backed by nearly 30 years of extensive utilization at its Stratasys Direct Manufacturing (SDM) service bureau and a partnership with DSM, a global, purpose-led, science-based company in Nutrition, Health and Sustainable Living, customers will be able to produce high-quality, durable parts for a wide range of applications with DSM Somos-verified high performance, quality resins that have been configured, pre-qualified and fine-tuned.

Traditionally, customers have been challenged by restricted systems that can’t be configured and having to use materials that come at a high cost-per-part when it comes to creating master patterns or large concept models quickly and accurately.

The V650 Flex changes all that as it is fully configurable to meet customer demands for specific applications and use-cases. The solution is truly one of the first large-scale systems for creating reliable, high-quality parts across design concepts, validation, investment casting, tooling, and injection molding.

With a large volume of 508 x 508 x 584mm and interchangeable vats, the V650 has demonstrated its reliability at SDM with a runtime of over 75,000 hours while producing more than 150,000 parts. The open vat configuration means customers can use their own resins but users will be able to use DSM Somos industrial-grade resins like:

Somos® Element: The antimony-free stereolithography resin, specifically designed for producing strong, stable investment casting patterns with fine-feature detail and very low residual burnout ash.

Somos® NeXt: The resin that provides the accuracy of SLA with the look, feel and performance of a thermoplastic.

Somos® PerFORM: The material-of-choice for applications that require strong, stiff, high-temperature resistant parts, such as tooling and wind tunnel testing.

Somos® Watershed XC 11122: A clear solution for designers looking for ABS and PBT-like properties for stereolithography – producing highly detailed, dimensionally stable, optically-clear parts with water resistance.
