Accelerate COVID-19 Swab Testing Training with 3D Printing

Given the fluid nature of the global COVID-19 situation, one thing was glaring: swab testing was lacking.

Typically, to test if a person is infected with COVID-19, a swab would be inserted into the nostril, where test samples are collected from the back of the nose.

With COVID-19 here to stay indefinitely, there is a growing and urgent need to train more swabbers to support and ramp up wider swab testing efforts in these unprecedented times.

We have come out with a 3D Printed Medical Manikin that can simulate swab testing scenarios for training, and addresses the shortcomings of existing simulators in the market that lacked the three essential procedures:

  • Nasal mid-turbinate swab
  • Nasopharyngeal swab
  • Oropharyngeal swab (aka throat swab)

Previously considered as a black box because of the lack of visualization and realism from existing solutions, the 3D Printed Manikins allowed swabbers to:

  • visualize the interior structure of the person being swabbed.
  • anticipate anything abnormal during the swabbing process.
  • Make the process safer for injury-preventive execution of swabbing.

To facilitate the pressing need for more convenient COVID-19 testing, Creatz3D has partnered with Structo to offer this 3D Printed Nasopharyngeal (NP) Swabs in a bundle package alongside with the Medical Manikins for healthcare providers.

Clinically validated for NP Swab Collection with a 55mm flexible neck, Structo NP swabs are produced in their ISO 134851 certified facility using FDA and EU registered biocompatible material, and sterilized to ISO 111352 standards.
